Help Protect 12 Months of Postpartum Care in Wyoming

The need for health care doesn't end after childbirth.

Having a baby is just the beginning of a mother's postpartum recovery. In the months that follow, new mothers may need care for anything from high blood pressure and heart conditions to postpartum depression and other health concerns.

Wyoming currently provides eligible mothers with Medicaid coverage for a full 12 months after pregnancy. This means they can continue accessing important healthcare services, including:

  • Primary care and specialist appointments

  • Mental health treatment

  • Prescription medications

  • Dental and vision care

  • Transportation to medical appointments

Why does a full year matter?

Serious pregnancy-related health complications can develop weeks or months after delivery. In fact, CDC research found that more than half of pregnancy-related deaths occur between one week and one year after pregnancy.

Continued healthcare coverage helps mothers access screenings, follow-up appointments, and treatment throughout this critical period.

But this coverage is not guaranteed beyond March 2027.

Unless lawmakers take action, Wyoming's current 12-month postpartum Medicaid extension will expire on March 31, 2027.

Now is the time to show support for continuing postpartum coverage in Wyoming.
